'Waterlilies', 111 x 101 cm, 1600AUD, SOLD
Welcome to my website!
Hi, my name is Ilse, I'm a Belgian-Australian artist living in Brisbane. For the last 15 years I've been painting mostly contemporary landscapes and abstracts including over 60 commissioned artworks. I started my arts training growing up in Belgium and continued this at the Brisbane Institute of Art. I am a strong advocate for finding your own artistic expression through hard work and exploration and I am confident and proud of having found my own style in this manner.
I have held my second solo exhibition in November 2017. The painting 'Waterlilies' was part of this exhibition and was one of the first works to sell. I also introduced my concept of Still Stones as my take on memento mori. Find out more about this on the Exhibition page.

My painting process and style
For most of my paintings I choose to work with acrylics on linen. The linen provides a strong yet delicately textured support while the versatility of acrylics allow me to apply many layers of varying pigment saturation.
The play between the intended and the accidental forms a key element in my painting process. While I paint I will also often find myself working in a constant flow of delicate touches to more bold and determined brushstrokes. These two elements combined very much reflect my personality. In fact the best compliment to receive as an artist is when people recognize you in your work. And so, despite of being highly critical of my own work during the painting process, I am confident that I have found a style of creating that is truly mine, and hope that my work will resonate with an audience.
